The ministry of road transport and highways is claimed to have issued a draft notification on the need to have buses and vans installed with safety technologies. These would include installations like a vehicle tracking device, an alert button and CCTV cameras on board. The draft notification is said to have clarified that buses with a carrying capacity of more than 23 people need to be fitted with the safety technology aids mentioned. Those that have a lesser capacity will have to be fitted with a vehicle tracking device, and an emergency button. The onus of fitting
these will be on the manufacturer or the dealer, or the respective operator. Certain other transport vehicles and goods carriers have been exempted. Crucial will be the implementation of the draft notification if it were passed.
