The Centre is said to have rejected the Delhi Government’s plans to upgrade the capital city’s public transport system by refusing a demand for Rs.4000 crore funding to purchase 5000 additional buses. The need for new buses was felt on the back of the odd-even scheme the Delhi Government experimented with in January 2016. The Government seems keen to practice it again in view of reducing traffic congestion and improving the air quality.
