Daimler AG has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Logistics Cell (NLC) for local assembly and manufacture of Mercedes‐Benz trucks in Pakistan. Expected to mark a major shift in the logistics and transportation industry’s preference of European manufacturers and their technologically advanced products, the local assembly of Mercedes‐Benz trucks would offer Daimler AG a strategic opportunity to leverage modernisation of Pakistan’s logistics industry. Daimler AG would also profit from the incentives offered by the Auto Development Policy 2016‐21 with the local manufacture of trucks. According to industry sources, the local assembly of Mercedes‐Benz trucks is expected to take-off early next year, and would enable operators to procure a Mercedes-Benz truck at a competitive price. The move of Daimler AG to make trucks in Pakistan is linked to the developments surrounding the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
