ContiTech Air Spring Systems has expanded its product portfolio for the commercial vehicle replacement market with the addition of 18 new types of air springs. These include weight-reduced air springs, which were specially developed for the current generation of Mercedes-Benz Actros. What makes the 18 new types of air springs special according to Contitech sources is the lightweight, patented plastic pistons. Compared to the use of steel components, the weight of the vehicle can be reduced by 12 kg per axle. In addition to the potential fuel saving and the related reduction in CO2 emissions, the low weight also enables an increase in payload. The internal volume of the piston can also be fully utilised, courtesy a special new manufacturing process, which considerably increases the comfort of the air suspension.
