Baja Auto’s Qute quadricycle continues to make consumer groups wary. Especially on the issue of safety. A consumer group is known to have expressed concern about the safety of the Qute in a letter addressed to Rajiv Bajaj, the company’s managing director. The letter refers to the results of a recently concluded crash test conducted by the European New Car Assessment Programme. The Qute received one star out of five stars. The letter, claimed to have been drafted by the Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group, Consumer Voice, Consumers Association of India and Consumer Education and Research Society, has urged the manufacturer to stall the India launch of the Qute until the requisite safety concerns are addressed. Bajaj in his reply is said to have urged the consumer groups to not compare the Qute with a car. He also stressed upon the adaption of higher safety standards in India. An estimated 334 Qutes were exported during the period between April 2015 and March 2016.
