Ashok Leyland Defense Systems (ALDS) has selected US-based Lockheed Martin’s High Mobility Vehicle or Common Vehicle Next Generation (CVNG) platform as it pursues Indian Armed Forces Light Specialist Vehicle (LSV) and Light Armored Multipurpose (LAM) vehicle programs. The CVNG will provide the base platform for the development of LSV and LAM vehicles. With the Indian Armed Forces looking to rapidly modernise their protected wheeled vehicle fleet, there could be numerous additional opportunities for this development effort beyond the LSV and LAM programs. Especially considering the stress on ‘Made in India’ vehicles, which provide a high-quality, cost effective alternative to vehicles that the armed forces have been importing until now. Developments like these are also certain to create export opportunities.
